Arabic Language- Basic and Advanced Level Lessons
Course overview: Written Arabic is almost the same all over the Arab world. However, when it comes to spoken Arabic, there are many variations and regional dialects. This course is designed to enable learners to communicate in Modern Standard Arabic, which is recognized as the formal spoken and written communication in the Arab world, using various examples of everyday situations. The course will cover reading, writing, speaking and understanding Arabic.
Course aim: This course is aimed at young students from 18 to 28 years of age, although the age limit is not strict.
Teaching methods: On the spot language course, organised in small groups, with an average number of 5 participants (maximum 8 participants in a group). We combine years of Arabic language teaching experience and perfect spoken standard Arabic with the newest and most creative methods of helping you acquire the Arabic language more easily.
Course material: Mastering Arabic (Hippocrene Press) and Al-Kitaab (Georgetown University Press).
Prerequisites for participation: Basic knowledge of Arabic for lower levels and intermediate knowledge for higher levels. Participants are required to take a placement test before being offered a place on the course.
You will learn: To write and read Arabic confidently, speak a limited set of Arabic sentences and words, and gain an understanding of spoken Arabic at the basic level. Advanced level students can expect to be able to participate comfortably in conversations on a wide range of topics, as well as to read and understand short paragraphs. Special topics are introduced to provide students with additional vocabulary.
Course activities: Since communicating in a foreign language requires an understanding of the cultural context, our aim is to teach you the living language through carefully selected textbooks, newspaper and magazine articles and other relevant materials, rather than have you repeat and memorize basic travel-book phrases.
Prospects upon course completion: The basic level of this course helps participants use Arabic in everyday situations and continue to improve their speaking and listening skills, whereas advanced level enables them to use Arabic in an academic environment and to understand the Arab culture, history, Islamic art and architecture.
