Course overview: A modern, interesting and creative course, specially designed for young participants from the Serbian Diaspora. This course also introduces participants to Serbian literature.
Course aim: The basic course level is intended for those who know, although are not completely certain on how to use grammar structures and have a limited vocabulary. Higher and advanced levels are intended for those who, to a certain extent, know the Serbian grammar and who try to put it into practice. As participants of these levels already have a considerable vocabulary, the main task which they have to perform is to enrich their knowledge with the language, shades of different meanings such as colloquial expressions, jargon, adequate use of various functional styles and similar things, to get to know more about Serbian literature and partially history.
Teaching methods: Visual and audio techniques are used in the teaching process, in order to motivate students and encourage their creativity. An assessment of their comprehension of the language is conducted through (the) translations of certain songs. Psychological tests are convenient for conversations and the simulation of everyday situations, which helps develop interactive skills. The course is taught by a Serbian language teacher, in small groups, with 5 students in average (maximum 8 per group).
Course material: A coursebook by "Zavod za izdavanje udzbenika" and the University of Novi Sad.
Prerequisites for the participation: Basic level of knowledge of Serbian for the lower level and intermediate level of knowledge for the higher level. All the participants are required to take a placement test before being offered a place for the course.
You Will Learn: The participants will get the opportunity to improve on all four language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing. This course also includes revision of already acquired grammar structures and acquisition of new ones, a boost in your vocabulary and "speaking".
Course activities: Visual and audio techniques, dialogues, multimedia, essay writing, debates, games which motivate students and encourage their creativity. After finishing the course the participants have to take a final test.
Course prospects: The course helps participants to feel more confident when using their mother tongue in everyday speech.
